1. Our Salty Aura rug
What has been your most eye-opening travel experience?
I would have to say it was seeing all the plastic pollution in Bali and the Philippines. We were swimming with giant manta rays whilst dodging plastic bags and packaging. Travelling has made me appreciate the ocean and environment so much more and now I am a huge believer in being a minimalist and trying to avoid single-use plastic as much as possible.
What is it that you love about traveling? Have you noticed a change within yourself or do you see the world differently since you've been exploring it?
My favourite thing about traveling is the excitement of seeing or experiencing something new every day. New locations, new people, new obstacles, new culture, everything! I have definitely noticed a change within myself. I used to be someone who wanted to stick with the normal lifestyle and didn’t like not knowing what the future holds. Now I look forward to not knowing what the future looks like, and all the amazing places and people I will meet one day! It has also made me a lot more open-minded, and feel that I should be very grateful to call Australia home. We are so lucky to have so many resources and ways to save and travel.
Was there a particular catalyst that pushed you towards a life of wandering, or have you always had itchy feet?
Ever since I was young I have always loved camping and going away. My friend then did camp America I thought I would give it a go after year 12. I caught the travel bug straight away! My partner and I spent a month in the Philippines as soon as I got back and that’s when we realised we wanted to travel as much as possible. He is a big reason why I love traveling so much, and since I met him we have been to the Philippines twice, Bali, QLD, and NSW.
What's your favourite place you've ever traveled, and why?
My favourite place has to be the Philippines. We have spent almost two months there and there is still so much more to see. The people there are so kind, and every day there is something new and exciting to see. Warm clear waters, thriving marine life, epic waterfalls, and countless breathtaking views. I also love the freedom of getting around on a scooter, surrounded by palm trees and the hot sun shining on our faces.
Best piece of advice you would give to another traveler?
Make an effort to step out of your comfort zone. Meet and talk to as many travelers as you can along the way. Some of my best memories are with groups of new people, all exploring together and sharing the same passion. Also, take as many photos as you can, or write down your best memories so you will never forget them.
Where to next?
Next year my partner and I are starting our loop around Australia. We have been doing up our 1975 Kombi van for a while now, and plan to head west mid next year. We have no time limit, and can’t wait to explore as much of Australia as we can.
