Our story

Tasi Travels was dreamt up on the paradise that is Atauro Island in Timor-Leste. Meaning "ocean" in the local Tetun language, Tasi combines minimalism, practicality and style. Tasi was designed with minimalism in mind, meaning that you can go away with five or six items and that's all you need for your trip, no matter how long you're away.

Our clothes are designed to be appropriate for both conservative cultures and hot climates, offering coverage as well as relief from the heat with light, breathable materials. Whilst also being one of the most sustainable textiles available, our fabric Tencel is incredible for travel. It dries quickly, doesn't wrinkle and is blissfully breathable.

We endeavor to create a community of wanderers and to inspire slow, authentic travel.

Transparency & Sustainability

The entire Tasi collection is designed and produced right here in Australia. All of our pieces are handmade to order right here on the Sunshine Coast. Whilst also supporting local industry and local businesses, manufacturing in Australia lowers our contribution to fossil fuels. As our pieces are made to order we also don't sit on any stock, which means there is no wastage.

Our fabric is a beautiful textile called Tencel, which is part of the Lyocell family and one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics available. Tencel is regenerated from sustainably grown wood cellulose from the eucalyptus tree. These eucalyptus trees are grown on marginal land unsuitable for food crops are are grown with a minimum of water, using sustainable forestry initiatives. The cellulose is treated in a closed loop system, meaning no waste is produced and the solvents are recycled with a recovery rate of 99.5%.

One of Tencel's most outstanding qualities is its ability to enhance breathability. The smooth surface of the fibre absorbs and releases moisture efficiently, supporting the body's natural thermal regulation. It is an exceptionally soft fabric, with a smooth and cool feeling against the skin. Tencel is more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen, making it perfect for travel.

A core part of the Tasi ethos is that of minimalism; less but better. We create timeless styles, shapes and colours that will last a lifetime of travels and don't harm the environment in their production.

We are committed to constantly learning, growing and evolving so our practices are as environmentally friendly as possible.

Team Tasi

Tasi was founded by Jessica Abraham in 2017. Tasi Travels is Jess's second business, having co-founded and run independent publication Tidal Magazine prior to launching Tasi. Jess has been active in environmental conservation since her early teens, particularly in the space of marine debris and plastic pollution.

Each Tasi piece is handmade by our seamstress, Charlie Mackay. Charlie is also local to the Sunshine Coast and the owner of menswear brand Tyranus Apparel. Jess and Charlie met through Tidal and Tyranus and now make up the Tasi team.
